Our intention for the June Gathering is Fun & Fellowship through communion with nature, playing in the water, laughter, sharing a meal, & sacred dance & singing.
Here are some ideas from an article “Put some Fun in Your Summer” in June 2013 Prevention Magazine by Sarah Mahoney:
* Anything that connects us to our childhood energy & joy counts as fun.
* Housework is bad for your health.
* Music is one of the fastest ways to switch from serious to playful.
It’s the quickest way to get us out of our heads & into our bodies.
* Sharing what makes you smile intensifies the benefits.
* Experiencing playful moments honors your need for unfettered joy.
"A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing,
the birds are singing, & the lawn mower is broken." ~ James Dent

Charlemagne, our Peacock
Summer Solstice
Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher & higher until it seems to stand still in the sky. As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day & the shortest night of the year.
The longest day isn’t necessarily the hottest: Earth’s atmosphere, land, & oceans absorb part of the incoming energy from the Sun & store it, releasing it back as heat at various rates. Water is slower to change temperature than air or land. At the summer solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives the highest intensity from the Sun due to angle & day length; however, the land & oceans are still relatively cool, so the maximum heating effect on air temperature is not felt just yet. Eventually, the land &, especially, oceans will release stored heat back into the atmosphere. This usually results in the year’s hottest temperatures appearing in late July or August. This effect is called seasonal temperature lag. Wikipedia

I really enjoyed playing music … I like the way you lead ... you're very easy to follow… & very thorough as well, making sure the musician knows exactly what you want. Kathy S.

Hafiz
Even after all this time …
The Sun never says to the Earth
“You owe me!”

It lights the whole sky !

Strawberry Full moon
the night of June 22-23
June’s Strawberry Moon got its name because the Algonquin tribes knew it as a signal to gather ripening fruit. This year’s full moon is not only the closest and largest full moon of the year, it also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013.
Astronomers call this sort of close full moon a perigee full moon.
Our deeper dancing on Saturday night will be in the Gazebo again.
