The Basilica of
Our Lady of Guadalupe
is on the site where a poor Indian named Juan Diego is reputed to have seen a vision in 1531 of a beautiful lady in a blue mantle. The local bishop was reticent to confirm that Juan had indeed seen Mary, so he asked the peasant for some evidence. Juan saw the vision a second time, & it became miraculously emblazoned on the peasant's cloak. The bishop immediately ordered the building of a church on the spot, & upon its completion the image was hung, framed in gold. Juan Diego became the first indigenous American to become a saint of the Catholic Church. The basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.

In Greek mystical symbology the two wings of a bird are symbolic of consciousness. Open wings represent the expansion of consciousness, also called the unfoldment of the soul. In any path, when you wish to go further in the spiritual journey, be it religion, philosophy, or mysticism, you have to come to the expansion of consciousness.
